Texas NorthSTAR Program Goes to ValueOptions
OPEN MINDS On-Line News ValueOptions, Inc. and the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation announced on July 27, 2000 that ValueOptions will assume operation of the entirety of its NorthSTAR Program. ValueOptions stepped in when Magellan Behavioral Health announced in June that it would not renew its contract. ValueOptions and Magellan each operated half the program until Magellan pulled out, citing underfunding and high pharmaceutical costs. The NorthSTAR program, which began in July 1999, provides mental health and substance abuse benefits for Medicaid recipients and indigent persons in the seven-county Dallas metro area.
