New Jersey To Allow Behavioral Health Service Delivery In Homeless Shelters
Under a new law, New Jersey will allow licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage/family therapists, and addiction treatment professionals to provide services on-site at homeless shelters. Licensed behavioral health professionals can provide the services on a part-time or full-time basis. The goal is to reduce barriers to accessing behavioral health services.
Currently mental health services provided on-site at homeless shelters are not eligible for Medicaid reimbursement. The state Department of Human Services is applying for needed Medicaid state plan amendments or waivers to cover behavioral health care in provided at homeless shelters.
