SNAP Equal Treatment Rule Is Mandatory For SNAP-EBT Authorized Retailers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reminded retailers that are authorized to provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefit Transfer (SNAP/EBT) benefits that they must comply with the SNAP Equal Treatment rule. This rule states that:
Retailers must offer eligible foods at the same prices and on the same terms and conditions to SNAP-EBT customers as other customers, with the exception that sales tax cannot be charged on SNAP purchases.
Retailers cannot treat SNAP-EBT customers differently than any other customer.
Offering discounts or services only to SNAP paying customers is a SNAP violation unless a retailer . . .
