The average total monthly health care cost of treatment with the older antipsychotic medication perphenazine was between $300 and $600 less than the average monthly cost of treatment with the second-generation antipsychotic medications olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, or ziprasidone. The lower average monthly cost of the older medication was directly linked to the lower cost of the older medication; this correlation continued even when lower drug prices were obtained for all antipsychotic medications.
