New Jersey Juvenile Reform Program to Miss Deadline for Removing Mentally Ill from Detention Facilities

On January 13, 2005, New Jersey State Child Advocate, Kevin Ryan, announced that the state juvenile system reform program is to miss its July 1, 2005, deadline for the removal of mentally ill youth from juvenile detention facilities because state officials have not identified enough facilities for relocation. Mr. Ryan stated that the juvenile system has not yet determined the number of beds needed, the cost of treatment, and the services necessary.
