23% of Individuals With SMI Have Addictive Disorder: Over Half of Adults With Co-Occurring Disorders Received No Treatment

About 23% of adults with a serious mental illness (SMI) were also dependent on or abused alcohol or an illicit drug. In addition, more than half of adults with co-occurring SMI and substance use disorder received neither mental health treatment nor specialty substance use treatment.
