75% of Children in California Mental Health Facilities Not Receiving Adequate Medication Monitoring

Nearly three-quarters of patient records of children receiving psychoactive medication within California publicly funded mental health facilities within county entities were not documented to receive adequate safety monitoring through vital signs or laboratory studies. Additionally, public mental health facilities were found to produce moderate to poor documentation of use of evidence-based psychosocial treatment, child abuse screening, and parental consent.
