Child Welfare Spending Increased Eight Percent from 2000 to 2002

Federal, state, and local child welfare funding increased eight percent from 2000 to 2002. In 2002 a total of $22.2 billion was spent on public and private child welfare activities, up from $20.8 billion in 2000.
According to the study, "The Cost of Protecting Vulnerable Children IV: How Child Welfare Funding Fared During the Recession," conducted by the Urban Institute, released February 8, 2005, child welfare spending represents a $1.5 billion increase from 2000 . . .
