On May 22, 2003, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) established an interim final rule permitting opioid treatment programs that serve heroin and prescription narcotic addicts to offer buprenorphine treatment along with methodone and ORLAAM. The rule went into effect on May 22, 2003, and has a comment period open until July 21, 2003.
