The average pay for psychiatrists in the United States is $176,000, with reports going as high as $250,000 and as low as $140,000. According to the 2005 Review of Physician Recruitment Incentives, published annually by Merritt, Hawkins & Associates, the number of facilities searching for psychiatrists rose 48%, from 54 in 2003/2004 to 80 in 2004/2005. The report attributes this to a growing demand for behavioral health services and a diminishing supply of psychiatrists . . .
