Louisiana has become the 27th state to enact a law to mandate insurance coverage by health insurance providers for persons with severe mental illnesses. On July 12, 1999, Louisianas Governor Mike Foster (R) signed into law a broad measure providing parity for 13 specific severe mental illnesses.
