Researchers Say Second-Generation Antidepressants Are Similar to First-Generation Antidepressants Despite Some Differences

In September 2005, researchers at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill found that second-generation antidepressants have about the same benefits as first-generation antidepressants with minimal variations in risks despite drug and cost classification differences. Second-generation antidepressants included familiar names such as Prozax, Zoloft, Effexor, Wellbutrin, Paxil, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and other pharmaceuticals that can affect neurotransmitter activity.
