Most Public Sector Employees Have Behavioral Health Coverage

Ninety-seven percent of all full-time public sector employees of state and local governments have some coverage for inpatient treatment of mental illness and 95% have some outpatient coverage according to a survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (ELS). This is somewhat lower than the levels of coverage that BLS found among private sector employees in medium and large establishments where 99% had inpatient and 97% had outpatient coverage.
