The Department of Defense (DOD) has just published new rules with regard to reimbursement of psychiatric hospitals under CHAMPUS, according to a report in the September 15 issue of’ the American Psychiatric Association’s ‘Legislative Newsletter’. Effective January 1989, CHAMPUS will use hospital-specific and regionally-based per diem payments (rather than a national per diem rate.) Hospitals with over 25 yearly psychiatric and/or chemical dependency discharges will be paid a hospital-specific rate that will be capped . . .
