The Medical Society of the District of Columbia (MSDC) has urged Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry to fill 596 vacancies in the city’s mental health system. In a letter to the Mayor, the MSDC urged him to restore quality to a deteriorating system that the Society described as being in a “shocking condition” due to a shortage of funds, inadequate staffing, and a failure to implement a unified plan of care.
