Stephen E. Breuning pleaded guilty in federal court on September 19 to two counts of submitting phony research results to support applications for more than $200,000 in grants from the National Institute of Mental Health in 1983. Breunings research involved studies from 1980 to 1984, showing that stimulant drugs such as Ritalin and Dexedrine helped in controlling hyperactive retarded children with fewer adverse side effects than tranquilizers used previously.
