The Winning Formula In Foster Care
In fiscal year (FY) 2013, an estimate $22.9 billion dollars were spent on administrative costs and direct service provisions for children and youth in the child welfare system. Of that total, the largest amount was spent on the administrative service related to foster care ($5.65 billion, or 24%); followed by family support services and independent living services ($5.2 billion or 23%); adoption and guardianship services ($4.7 billion or 21%); congregate care settings ($3.8 billion or 17%); and family foster/kinship care ($3.5 billion or 15%).
