Buprenorphine & Methadone – Do We Actually Need To Increase Treatment Capacity?

We’ve crunched the numbers, and you may or may not be surprised at our analysis of capacity for dispensing buprenorphine and methadone for medication-assisted treatment (MAT). On paper, if buprenorphine prescribers and opioid treatment programs (OTPs) operate at maximum capacity for dispensing buprenorphine/methadone, the system would be able to provide services to 100% of the population with an opioid addiction while operating at 86% capacity.
