Michigan Senate Rejects Plan for 15 New Charter Schools in Detroit
The Michigan State Senate rejected a plan on December 30, 2002, that would have added 15 charter high schools to Detroit, 3 per year over the next five years. The bill was passed by the Michigan's House of Representatives in December 2002. To offset losses caused by declining enrollment, the bill included $7.5 million for existing Detroit schools.
There's a good chance next year's new batch of lawmakers will reconsider the plan for 15 charter high schools . . .
