Audit Finds Medicare Payment Problems
U.S. Senator Tom Harkin released a new report March 21, 2000 from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the Department of Health and Human Services that details substantial problems in Medicare payments to outpatient rehabilitation facilities (ORF). The OIG conducted a review of ORFs in six states (Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas) representing $277 million of the total nationwide ORF payments of $572 million in 1997.
