Indiana Expands Disability Coverage

On March 15, 2000, Indiana Governor Frank O’Bannon signed into law a change in the state’s Medicaid disability standards, which until now have permitted Medicaid coverage only when disabilities were permanent, not when treatment could enable an eventual return to productive life. The new law, Senate Enrolled Act 79, will reach 5,500 disabled Indiana citizens who have gone without assistance, according to Governor O’Bannon.
