Hawaii Lawmakers Approve Bill For Medical Use Of Marijuana
In what marijuana advocates say is the beginning of a "second wave" of states approving the herb for limited medical use, Hawaii's Legislature passed a bill on April 25, 2000, permitting those with certain illnesses to use marijuana as a medical treatment. Governor Benjamin J. Cayetano, a Democrat, has said he will sign the bill, and in fact introduced the bill into the legislative process. Alaska, California, Maine, Oregon, and Washington have passed ballot initiatives permitting some limited medical use of marijuana, but Hawaii . . .
