Liberty Healthcare & San Bernardino Sheriffs Department Piloting Jail-Based Competency Restoration Program

On October 25, 2010, the Sheriffs Department in San Bernardino County, California started a one-year, 20-bed, jail-based mental health pilot program for offenders found incompetent to stand trial; it provides psychiatric assessments, stabilization treatment, and competency restoration services. The services are provided by Liberty Healthcare Corporation via a $4 million contract with the California Department of Mental Health (DMH).
