25% Of Children In Mental Health Crisis Had Emergency Department Stays Of Six Hours Or Longer
During 2015, about 25% of children ages 6 to 17 who visited an emergency department for a mental health crisis stayed for six or more hours. Between 2005 and 2015, the share of children with a mental health crisis emergency visit who stayed longer than six hours rose from 16.3% to 24.6%. Between 2005 and 2015, the share who stayed for 12 or more hours rose from 5.3% to 12.7%. For non-mental health pediatric emergency department visits between 2005 and 2015, the length of stay remained stable at about 5% lasting six or more hours . . .
