In 2019, U.S. Referrals To Child Protective Services Dropped By 3.1%
Between 2018 and 2019, the number of children referred to child protective services (CPS) for abuse or neglect dropped from 677,000 in federal fiscal year (FFY) 2018 to 656,000 in FFY 2019. The number of children who received a CPS investigation response or alternative response decreased about 1.7% from 3.53 million children in FFY 2018, to 3.47 million children in FFY 2019.
