7.1% Of U.S. Adults Age 60+ Were Food Insecure In 2021, From 2.8% In North Dakota To 13.4% In Louisiana

In 2021, about 7.1% of the 78 million older Americans aged 60 years and older are food insecure, representing 5.5 million people, according to an analysis by Feeding America®. Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life, either temporarily or for an extended period of time. Across the states, food insecurity affects 2.8% of older adults in North Dakota to about 13.5% in Louisiana.
