Adolescent Depression Screenings At Primary Care Visits Recommended Starting At Age 12
Youth age 12 and up should be screened for major depressive disorder (MDD) at primary care visits, according to a recommendation by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). The recommendation is based on an analysis of the benefits and harms of screening, accuracy of screening, and benefits and harms of treatment of MDD and suicide risk in children and adolescents that would be applicable to primary care settings. For children under 12, the USPSTF concluded that the evidence was insufficient to support universal screening for MDD.
