Dialysis Facility Closures Linked To 7+% Rise In Consumer Hospitalizations
Closures of local dialysis facilities are linked to a rise in consumer hospitalizations, at 7% to 9% higher compared with similar consumers at facilities that did not close. From January 2001 through April 2014, 521 dialysis facilities in the United States closed, which affected 8,386 consumers. Additionally, consumers affected by closure of their dialysis facility had an 8% higher risk of dying within six months after the facility closed.
