Health Care Sector Bankruptcies Increase 84% Between 2021 & 2022

Between 2021 and 2022, the number of Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by health care organizations with liabilities of $10 million or more increased by 84%, from 25 in 2021 to 46 in 2022. By comparison, in 2019, there were 51 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings in the health care sector and 45 in 2020. Bankruptcy filing trends from 2019 to 2022 varied by the organization’s liabilities.
