Housing Provider Organizations Cannot Charge Extra Fees For Allowing An Assistance Animal For People With Disabilities
Housing provider organizations must accommodate and cannot charge extra fees for allowing people with disabilities to have an assistance animal. Under the Fair Housing Act (FHA), people with disabilities may request a reasonable accommodation for their service animals and other types of assistance animals, including support animals. Assistance animals can do work, perform tasks, provide assistance, and/or provide emotional support. A common reasonable accommodation is a waiver of a no-pet policy.
