Comprehensive Palliative Care Could Offer Medicaid $0.80 To $2.60 For Each $1 Spent
If state Medicaid plans offered a comprehensive palliative care benefit for the highest service utilizers, the state could improve quality of life for the beneficiaries with serious, terminal illness, and may be able to reduce costs. The potential return on investment to Medicaid programs that offer palliative care is estimated to range from $0.80 to $2.60 for each $1 spent on palliative care. Unlike, hospice care, palliative care is not determined by the consumer’s prognosis for recovery or death within six months.
