Inappropriate Antipsychotic Prescribing In U.S. Long-Term Care Facilities Connected With Staffing Levels
In U.S. long-term care (LTC) facilities, prescriptions for antipsychotics are connected with registered nurse (RN) and licensed professional nurse (LPN) staffing levels. When the facility staff-to-consumer ratio increased by one unit, inappropriate prescriptions for antipsychotics declined by 0.75%. When the units of licensed nursing staff hours increased by one unit, inappropriate prescriptions for antipsychotics dropped by 3.09%.
The mean staff level for the facilities was identified as 3.69 staffing hours per patient per day, and the mean antipsychotic use rate across all facilities was 15.24%. The researchers observed a 2.25% decrease . . .
