Incidence Rates Of Diabetes Continue To Increase In Children & Young Adults
The incidence of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes among children and young adults up to age 20 rose significantly between 2002 and 2018. The incidence of Type 1 diabetes rose by 2% per year to reach 22.2 per 100,000 in 2017, and the incidence of Type 2 diabetes rose by 5.3% per year to reach 17.9 per 100,000. For both types of diabetes, the annual rate of increase was higher for racial and ethnic groups than for non-Hispanic white children.
