Many Parents With Job-Based Individual Coverage Enroll Children In Medicaid Or CHIP
In 2013, about 15.2% of children whose parents earned up to 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL) and had employer-sponsored individual health insurance coverage were covered by Medicaid or a Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP). About 75% of children whose parents earned up to 400% FPL and had employer-sponsored insurance were covered by their parents’ insurance. The remaining 25% of children were either enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP (15.2%), or they were uninsured (6.6%); another 3.2% had some other form of insurance.
