Massachusetts Elder Abuse Protections Ranked Strongest; New Jersey Ranked Weakest
Elder abuse protections in Massachusetts earned the highest ranking in a national review. New Jersey’s elder protection system was ranked as the weakest. The rankings are on each state’s prevalence of elder abuse reports, the level of resources available to address abuse, and the range of services to protect older adults from abuse. The analysis considered state performance on 16 metrics, assigned a score for each, and then ranked the states and District of Columbia from best (1) to worst (51) overall and on the three separate dimensions.
