Medicaid Enrollment In Behavioral Health Managed Care Carve-Out Plans Down 11% Between 2019 & 2020

Medicaid enrollment in behavioral health organizations (BHOs) or behavioral health prepaid inpatient health plans (PIHP) and/or prepaid ambulatory health plans (PAHP) totaled nearly 8.3 million in 2020, down by 11% from 2019. The percentage of Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in a managed behavioral health plan has declined from 12% in 2019 to 10% in 2020.
