Naloxone Distribution Insufficient In Almost Every U.S. State

In almost all states, the distribution of naloxone is insufficient to avert 80% of opioid overdose deaths in a witnessed overdose. In a 12-state modeling study of naloxone distribution per 100,000 population as of 2017, only Arizona had distributed sufficient naloxone kits to reach the 80% target. Illinois had distributed the lowest number of kits, and to reach the 80% target would need to distribute 1,270 per 100,000 population per year.
