Nearly 1% Of U.S. Population Was Homeless In 2020
During 2020, 0.81% of the U.S. population was homeless, a rate of 18 individuals per 10,000 population. A total of 575,714 people experiencing homelessness were counted during a single point in time count in January 2020. About 21% of those counted, representing 119,466 people, were chronically homeless, at an estimated rate of 3.6 individuals per 10,000 population.
