U.S. Surgeon General Recommends Strategies To Prevent Health Care Worker Burnout
The United States Surgeon General issued recommendations on May 25, 2022, to health care provider organizations and payers on preventing burnout among health care workers. Burnout is defined as a state of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low sense of personal accomplishment at work, often associated with mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression. The recommendations address ways to improve access to mental health services, staffing, wages, workplace policies, and administrative burden.
