Weight-Loss Surgery Less Commonly Used In States With Highest Rates Of Obesity
Weight-loss surgery is less commonly used in states with the highest rates of obesity. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the highest prevalence of obesity is in Midwestern (33.9%) and Southern (33.3%) have the highest prevalence of obesity. However, the overall utilization of bariatric surgery was highest in New Jersey (10.4%), Rhode Island (9.6%) and Delaware (9.2%) and lowest in Vermont (2.1%), Arkansas (2.6%), Alabama (2.8%) and West Virginia (2.8%).
