Michael A. Sullivan brings over 20 years of computer software, systems administration, and technical experience to the OPEN MINDS team with specific expertise in Microsoft technologies including Microsoft Windows, SQL Server, Internet Information Server, Active Directory, and Office 365. Additional areas of experience include server virtualization using VMWare and Microsoft Hyper-V, networking, firewalls, routers, and various backup platforms. Mr. Sullivan is currently a Subject Matter Expert at OPEN MINDS.

Previously Mr. Sullivan was the Director of Information Technology for the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) where he developed, implemented and monitored policies to keep NSTA in compliance with security protocols, was instrumental in transitioning the onsite data center to a cloud-based solution, supervised help desk staff, maintained the software inventory including licensing renewals and upgrades and hardware support contracts, and was responsible for the security and uptime of NSTA’s web and ecommerce platforms.

Prior to his work at NSTA, Mr. Sullivan was a Senior Systems Engineer at Netmender, Inc., where he performed strategic level consulting for multiple clients who chose to outsource their IT functions to Netmender. He also acted as a technical lead for several clients while supervising the work done by junior technicians, participated in the migration of server installations from physical to virtual machines using VMWare, and spearheaded multiple migrations to Microsoft Office 365.

Before working at Netmender, Mr. Sullivan was the Assistant Director of IT at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) where he was responsible for developing and implementing ASTRO’s overall IT strategy including network infrastructure, security, software, telecommunications, and web presence. He also managed the web development team to ensure ASTRO’s websites integrated successfully with various internal and third-party applications.

Prior to his tenure at ASTRO, Mr. Sullivan was a System Integration Specialist at Dewberry Technologies Inc. At Dewberry, he was responsible for the network design, implementation, system integration, backup, security, remote network management, and technical support for multiple clients.  He successfully implemented projects including Active Directory deployments/upgrades, Citrix implementations, VPN/remote access implementations and installations of firewalls and firewall appliances.

Mr. Sullivan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Lee University.
