Highmark officials are terminating the contracts of 700 UPMC physicians to add clarity around which doctors will remain in Highmark’s network once its contract with UPMC ends December 31. The group, which includes 300 primary care physicians, 160 hospital-based physicians, 78 obstetrician/gynecologists, 18 cardiologists and 14 orthopedists, do all of their work at the six UPMC hospitals that are being terminated as of Jan. 1 or are solely practicing in the Greater Pittsburgh service area.
