The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened investigations into admissions policies at three medical schools: Stanford University, The Ohio State University, and the University of California, San Diego. The reviews will focus on potential race discrimination in medical school admissions, according to letters sent to the institutions.

The DOJ requested seven years of applicant data, from 2019 through 2026, in electronic format. The requested data include applicant test scores, extracurricular activities, essays, admissions decisions, and demographic information. According to the letters, the DOJ is seeking information to evaluate admissions outcomes across demographic groups, including by race.
