In the fourth quarter of 2020, occupancy at U.S. senior living communities reached an all-time low of about 80.7%. This  represents a 1.3 percentage point drop from the third quarter, when occupancy was 82.0%. From the second quarter to the fourth quarter of 2020, occupancy fell by a total of 6.8 percentage points. According to an economist at the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC), fourth-quarter occupancy in 2020 was at its lowest level since NIC began keeping records in 2006.
