Among a sample of Medicaid-enrolled adults, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was more common among those with autism than among adults in the general population. The highest ADHD rate, 40.2%, was among those with autism and intellectual disability. The next highest rate, 26.7%, was among those with autism alone. Among those with intellectual disability alone, 19.0% had ADHD. Among the general adult Medicaid population, about 2.7% had ADHD.

Intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are a physical and/or cognitive impairments that occur before the age of 22. Autism spectrum disorder is generally considered a type of developmental disability that affects behaviour and communication. The autism and I/DD market provides supports and health care services to these populations.
