Number of Teens Who Smoke at Lowest Point Since 1995: Heavy Drinking & Illicit Drug Use Declined Among Tenth Graders From 2001 to 2002

OPEN MINDS, The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry Statistics The number of teens who smoke cigarettes daily dropped to the lowest point since 1995, to 5% of eighth graders, 10% of tenth graders, and 17% of twelfth graders. The percentage of tenth graders who reported episodes of heavy drinking declined from 25% in 2001 to 22% in 2002. In addition, among tenth graders, illicit drug use in the past 30 days declined from 23% in 2001 to 21% in 2002.
