What Are Provider Preventable Conditions (PPCs) & Why Should You Care?
Among the pay-for performance initiatives putting "teeth" into the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – value based purchasing, bundled payments, accountable care organizations – is authorization to deny payment of claims for provider preventable conditions (PPCs). PPC is an umbrella term for two categories of inpatient adverse events: hospital acquired conditions (HACs), and other provider-preventable conditions (OPPCs) (i.e., wrong surgery, wrong site, or wrong patient events).
