The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) terminated a proposed merger between Lifespan Corp. and Care New England, both located in Rhode Island. The FTC said the proposed merger was anticompetitive and likely to reduce competition in the state of Rhode Island and 19 nearby Massachusetts communities for inpatient general acute care hospital services and inpatient behavioral health services. As a result of the FTC action, Lifespan and Care New England terminated their proposed merger.
