Michigan Medicine To Discontinue UM Health Plan & Michigan Care Plan In December 2025
Michigan Medicine announced that it will discontinue the UM Health Plan and the Michigan Care and Michigan Care Advantage plans it operates, effective at the end of 2025, allowing U-M Health to focus resources on direct patient care, education, and research.
Michigan Medicine is the majority owner of the UM Health Plan—formerly Physicians Health Plan or PHP—which operates the Michigan Care and Michigan Care Advantage plans, according to the announcement. The university will continue to offer other comprehensive health insurance plans to benefits-eligible faculty, staff, and retirees, the announcement stated.
