New York City Launches $5.8 Million Mental Health Initiative For Domestic Violence Shelter Residents
New York City launched a $5.8 million initiative to provide mental health services for families residing in the city’s domestic violence shelters. The initiative will provide mental health screenings, free individual and group counseling sessions, and medication management directly on site for adults and children housed in shelters for victims of domestic violence. The city anticipates serving more than 10,000 people annually.
The Domestic Violence Shelter Mental Health Initiative started in May 2023 at nine shelters. By early 2025, the city intends to expand the initiative to all the city’s domestic violence shelters.
